The primary purpose of this position is to assist the Director of Therapeutic Recreation in the planning, organizing, developing and directing th! e overall operation of the Activity Department in accordance with current federal, state and local standards, guidelines and regulations, our established policies and procedures, and as may be directed ny the Administrator, to assure that an ongoing program of activities designed to meet, in accordance with the comprehensive assessments, the interests and the physical, mental and psychosocial well-being of each resident is maintained.

Major duties include but are not limited to:
Assist in plans and provisions of patient care by visiting residents regularly to evaluate needs.
Document and report to the nursing department any unusual or significant findings.
Encourage residents to take part in activities of daily living that will stimulate his/her potential, physically, mentally, socially and spiritually.
Spend duty time with residents rather than with other facility staff.
Assist with and follow through on the establishment of resident car! e goals within the framework of the entire therapeutic team.
Educational Requirements:
Must possess, as a minimum, a high school diploma or equivalent.

Experience Requirements:
As a minimum, one (1) year experience in an Activities Department in a hospital, skilled nursing care facility or other related medical facility is preferred.

Other Requirements:
Must have patience, tact and a cheerful disposition, and enthusiasm, as well as be willing to handle residents based on whatever maturity level at which they are currently functioning.
Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel and the general public.
Must possess leadership ability and willingness to work harmoniously with professional and non-professional personnel.
Must be able to relate to and work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and at times, hostile people within the facility.
