TITLE: Dean of Students (Student Services)REPORTS TO: High School Principal, Associate Principal, Assistant Principal and (Director of Freshman A cademy)EDUCATIONAL/TRAINING/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS REQUIRED: Masters degree or equivalent from an accredited college or university; education background should include courses in educational administration, supervision, and child development.A valid certificate in a K-12 field and/or K-6 or 7-12 with high school endorsement issued by the Rhode Island Department of Education.A valid certificate as a school principal/assistant school principal issued by the Rhode Island Department of Education, or evidence of substantial progress of completing the requirements for licensure. (preferred)At least 5 years of successful teaching experience (preferred)Training or willingness to complete training in Multi-Tiered Systems of Support, Restorative Justice, and/or Social Emotional LearningSuch alternatives to the above qualifications as the School Committee may find appropriate and acceptable.POSITION SUMMARY: The Dean of Student Services for Portsmouth High School would be a member of the NE A-Portsmouth bargaining unit working in a 190-day position. The Dean of Student Services would assist in the day to day management of the building to enable the principal, associate principal and assistant principal to focus on instructional leadership. As a professional educator the Dean of Student Services should be an educator who understands and is able to respond to the challenges presented by todays diverse student population.

The Dean of Student Services will provide proactive support to engage all high school stakeholders in the delivery of programs and services that support the academic achievement, personal, and social development of students. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Liaison with School Nurse, Social Worker, School Psychologist, and Guidance Counselors to ensure a continuum of services are available to all students.Chair 504 meetings and will chair RTI meetings for all students.Supervision of cafeteria, bus loading/unloading zone, and hallways.Oversee guidanc e programs including parent programming.Streamline systems for helping students to access services through tutoring.Work with Administration Office to improve communication and ensure adherence to registration, truancy, and special education requirements.Other duties as may be assigned by the principalPHYSICAL DEMANDS: Hear and speak at normal levels to include making presentations and exchanging information in person and on the telephone Communicate so others will be able to clearly understand normal conversation Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard and manipulate paperSee to read, prepare documents and reports, and to observe studentsAble to meet multiple demands from several people and meet deadlines with severe time constraints Sit or stand for extended periods of time, in both indoor and outdoor environments, and possible running in order to maintain a safe learning environmentStamina to work irregular or extended hours to include a full day and then attending meetings or supervising evening events Work at a desk, conference table, small student classroom table, or in meetings in various configurations Kneel, bend at the waist, and reach overhead, above the shoulders, and horizontallyLifting, carrying, pushing or pulling moderately heavy objectsSALARY: Base salary per NEA Portsmouth contract plus $3,500 stipend - 190 day work year EVALUATION: Employee performance will be evaluated annually by the principal
