REGISTERED NURSE

PURPOSE OF YOUR POSITION

The primary purpose of your job position is to provide direct nursing care to residents and to supervise the day-to-day nursing activities performed by the nursing assistant. Such supervision must be in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations that govern our facilit! y, and as may be required by your supervisor to ensure that th! e highest degree of quality care is maintained at all times.

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY

As the Registered Nurse, you are responsible and accountable to carry out your assigned duties and report directly to the Nursing Supervisor.

JOB FUNCTION

WORKING CONDITIONS

Works in office area(s) as well as throughout the nursing area (i.e., drug rooms, nurses stations, resident rooms, etc).

Sits, stands, bends, lifts, and moves intermittently during working hours.

Is subject to frequent interruptions.

Is involved with residents, personnel, visitors, government ! agencies, etc., under all conditions and circumstances.

Is subject to hostile and emotionally upset patients, family members, personnel and visitors.

Communicates with the medical staff, nursing services, and other department supervisors.

Works beyond normal working hours, on weekends, and holidays, in other positions temporarily when necessary. Scheduled hours may change to meet facility needs.

Is involved in community/civic health matters/projects as appropriate.

Attends and participates in continuing educational programs.

Is subject to falls, burns from equipment, odors, exposure to chemicals, etc., throughout the workday.

Is subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc., including AIDS and Hepatitis B viruses.

Maintains a liaison with the residents, their families, support departments, etc., to adequately plan for the residents needs.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMEN! TS

Must possess, as a minimum, a Nursing Degree from an accred! ited school of nursing, college. Must be CPR certified.

EXPERIENCE

A minimum, one (1) year experience in a hospital, long-term care facility or other related health care facility is preferable.

SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS

Must possess a current, unencumbered license to practice as an RN.

Must be able to read, write, speak and understand the English language.

Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such actions.

Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel and the general public.

Must be knowledgeable of nursing and medical practices and procedures, as well as laws, regulations, and guidelines that pertain to long term care.

Must possess leadership and supervisory ability and the willingness to work harmoniously with professional and non-professional personnel.

Must posse! ss the ability to plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret the programs, goals, objectives, policies and procedures, etc., that are necessary for providing quality care.

Must possess accurate and comprehensive assessment skills.

Must be familiar with drug actions and interactions.

Must have knowledge of restorative nursing rehabilitation policies and utilizes appropriately.

Must have patience, tact, a cheerful disposition, and enthusiasm, as well as the willingness to handle difficult residents.

Must be willing to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing nursing practices.

Must be able to communicate effectively to appropriate personnel regarding emergency situations.

PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS
(With or Without the Aid of Mechanical Devices)

Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.

Must be able to sp! eak and write the English language in an understandable manner.
Must possess sight/hearing senses or use prosthetics that will enable the senses to function adequately so that the requirements of this position can be fully met.

Must function independently and have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with the patients, personnel and support agencies.

Must be able to relate to and work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and at times, hostile people within the facility.

Must be able to push, pull, and do heavy lifting without restrictions.

Must be able to assist in the evacuation of residents in emergency situations.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Meet the nursing and rehabilitation needs of each resident.

Maintain current resident care plans on all residents under his/her care.

Follow physicians orders. Renders and/or assist with complete nursing care, treatments, dressings, and other physician orders.

Transc! ribe physicians orders promptly and accurately.

Review patient records daily to assure accuracy and completeness.

Document comprehensive and complete nursing notes.

Visit each resident daily to evaluate resident needs.

Maintain accurate awareness of residents on alert list.

Document and report any unusual or significant findings; contact the physician when necessary.

Administer medication according to procedure.

Maintain an accurate and safe control of all drugs for which he/she is responsible.

Initiate any and all emergency procedures as necessary.

Demonstrate correct safety techniques.

Respects and takes care of facility equipment and not wasteful of supplies.

Contributes to effective communication and pleasant working conditions.

Contribute to and promote positive resident and family relations.

Complies with facility Privacy Practices Policies! and Procedures and protects residents individual health information.
Follow facility policy and procedures.

Continue growth and expand job knowledge.

Demonstrate leadership skills.

Will maximize the potential of each employee supervised.

CORPORATE COMPLIANCE

Fully complies with all federal and state laws and standards of ethical and professional conduct applicable to their position.

Knowledge about laws and regulations relating to job responsibilities, e.g., EEO, OSHA, patient rights, fraud/abuse laws.

Is consistently truthful and accurate in written and verbal communications.

Demonstrates adherence to employee code of ethics and conduct. (Refer to personnel policies).

Exhibits ethical/moral responsibility in problem resolution and decision making.

Required documentation/record keeping is accurate, complete and timely.

Reports suspected violations of federal and state laws and any types of misconduct to facility administrator, or other ! appropriate staff member.
