The Providence VA Medical Center, located in downtown Providence, RI provides opportunity for urban and/or rural living with an easy commute. RI, the Ocean State, is known for its scenic shoreline, offering sandy beaches, and quaint villages as well as, the opulent mansions of Newport, the sailing capitol of the world. Providence is located between Boston and New York City with excellent transportation facilities in both directions. The Medica! l Center delivers a broad range of services including general ! medicine, surgical and psychiatric inpatient facilities, fully accredited by the Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Health Care Organizations (JCAHO). The Medical Center includes a vibrant research program and is affiliated with the Alpert Medical School of Brown University, Harvard School of Dental Medicine and the University of Rhode Island, College of Pharmacy. The Center also operates three (3) Community Based Outpatient Clinics in New Bedford, Hyannis, MA and Middletown, RI as well as three (3) Vet Centers.

This Registered Nurse position is located in Nursing Service at the Medical Center and is a bargaining unit position.

Applicant's education and experience will be reviewed by a Professional Standards Board to determine the grade and salary of the applicant selected. The recommended salary will be at any point in the range listed for this vacancy.

KEY REQUIREMENTS

U.S. Citizenship

Full unrestricted Registered Nurse Licensure

Subject to a background/suitability investigation

Must pass a pre-employment physical examination

Designated and random drug testing may be required

Must be proficient in spoken and written English

DUTIES:
Cares for emergent and non-emergent patients.

Performs advanced cardiac monitoring.

Has the ability to make quick and accurate assessments to include both physical and mental conditions.

Possess knowledge of normal VS. abnormal findings and reporting abnormal findings as warranted.

Indentifies and manages life-sustaining physiologic functions in unstable patients.

Utilizes critical thinking to! intervene with appropriate intervention for urgent/emergent care.

Cares for acute and chronically ill patients

Possess phlebotomy, and basic IV and central line skills.

Possess knowledge of hemodynamics.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

Basic Requirements:
Graduate of a state approved, National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC)/Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) accredited school of Nursing.

Active, current, full and unrestricted Registered Nurse License.

Registered Nurses appointed to direct patient care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by United States Code 7402 (d) and 7407 (d).

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification

Preferred Requirements:
Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing or a field related to nursing.

Minimum of 2 years of Telemetry/Stepdown experience as a ! Registered Nurse.

Proficient in Advanced Cardiac Rhythm Recognition.

Previous critical care experience preferred.

Demonstrated ability to be self-directed.

Demonstrated effectiveness in problem solving and decision making.

Experience using an Electronic Medical Record.

Highly-motivated, strong interpersonal and organizational skills, dependable and flexible individual with a positive attitude.

Demonstrated ability to work well with patients/families and with an interdisciplinary team.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Demonstrated ability to apply the nursing process to clinical practice.

Physical Requirements:
This position requires visual acuity, keen hearing, clear distinctive speech, and manual dexterity. This position requires potentially long periods of continued walking, standing, stooping, bending, pulling, pushing, and sitting at a keyboard. Transfe! rring patients and objects may be required. The incumbent may be expose! d to infected patients and contaminated materials and may be required to don protective clothing in isolation situations or operative/invasive procedures. The incumbent may occasionally be exposed to patients who are combative secondary to delirium, dementia, or psychiatric disorders. The incumbent must be a mature, flexible, sensible individual capable of working effectively in stressful situations, able to shift priorities based on patient needs and able to manage work activities in a highly technological integrated work environment.
