Pharmacy Technician - OLF

Position Summary: Assists registered pharmacists in performing technical and clerical duties. · Reviews, interprets, transcribes and fills m! edication orders from copies of the physicians order sheet or from outpatient prescriptions. Prepares small and large volume parenterals, chemotherapeutic agents and sterile and non-sterile preparations. Fills unit dose medication carts.
(All work in this capacity must be checked by a registered pharmacist who assumes full responsibility for the technician s performance.) · Receives shipments against packing lists or invoices, report shortages, overages, damaged goods, etc. to supervision. · Stock shelves, repackages drugs, prepares sterile formulations and related items, fills stock bottles, labels items, etc., according to department policies and procedures. · Remove and return outdated or deteriorated merchandise to manufacturers or vendors.
Perform patient care area inspections, documentation and follow-up procedures. · Complete activity logs, forms, records and requisitions as needed. Perform pricing duties, obtain approvals and forward to Data Pr! ocessing Department. · Operate Pharmacy machinery including u! nit dose packaging machine and label printing machine as required.
- Transport copies of physician orders, drugs (including narcotics), floor stock supplies, forms, medication cassettes, and other materials to various areas of the Hospital. Inspect and record quantities of drugs (including large volume parenteral balances) remaining in nursing unit areas (including patient rooms). · Replenish emergency trays, narcotic trays, stat trays, and other such items in conformance with standard procedure. · Observe all hospital and departmental policies, rules and regulations including good housekeeping, safety and security practices.
- Perform other clerical and/or technical duties as assigned or directed to provide maximum benefit and assistance to pharmacists, hospital and patients. Education: Accuracy in counting, weighing, posting, etc. required. Equivalent to high school education.
