Certified Medical Technician

Location: Providence Rhode Island

Recognizes and can assist in the prevention of elder abuse, neglect, and exploitation
Communication
Communicates questions, con! cerns, and/or discrepancies related to medication administration/assistance to Resident Care Director/Resident Care Nurse (RCD/RCN).
Communicates any significant change of mental or physical status of resident to RCD/RCN.
Documents administration/assistance on Medication Observation Record (MOR).
Documents/ notifies RCD/RCN of administration/assistance of PRN meds
Responsible for documentation on PRN meds and affect, as allowed per state regulations.
Compliance/Safety
Understands the ethical and legal responsibilities inherent in the administration/assistance of medications.
Has knowledge and understanding of importance of prompt reporting of unwanted effects, proper storage.
Checks all med books and ensures that meds have been given, treatments completed, and all initials are complete as state regulations permit
Checks Activity of Daily Living (ADL) books for signatures and completion of care
Reviews and completes 72 hour log.
Ac! ts as lead in an emergency (e.g., elopement, fire, disaster, e! tc.)
Follows Infection Control protocol.

Knowledge and Experience
Demonstrates proficiency at reading and understanding a Resident Care Service Plan or assignment (e.g., ADLs and introductory visits)
Understands advanced directives and end-of-life care
Understands the nursing function in assisted living
Understands quality of care objectives
Understands quality of life objectives
Reviews and demonstrates understanding of the use of Resident Care Standards and Practices with the RCD/RCN.
Demonstrates knowledge of Benchmark Standards and Practices
Demonstrates working knowledge of state regulations as they pertain to the job
Has sound working knowledge of policies in the Resident Handbook
Possesses current First Aid, and Heimlich certification, if required by state regulations
Organization / Prioritization
Follows daily work schedules as directed and identifies and acts on non-scheduled tasks
Shows a consistent ! ability to coordinate multiple tasks
Maintains a positive attitude when working under pressure

Problem Solving / Decision Making
Responds to emergencies and personal emergency response system and knows when to call for backup
Effectively handles difficult resident behaviors
Reacts calmly and effectively in emergency situations

Public Relations / Marketing
Represents the community with a positive attitude and pride when interacting with potential residents and families
Develops and practices the 30-second commercial and uses it to greet visitors

Resident Care
Able to properly and safely set up and administer/assist with medications as allowed by State Regulations.
Able to properly chart medications administered/ assisted and immediately report to the nurse those medications not administered/ assisted for any reason.
Answers emergency calls and attends to residents needs promptly
Responsible for maintaining ad! equate supply of meds (ordering and reordering)
Responsible for doc! umentation of med administration/ assistance on MOR
Responsible for administering/ assisting with medications as allowed by state regulations.
May supervise resident who is self-administering injectable medications
Vision / Innovation
Assesses risk in a proactive manner
Misc.
Assists the Community Sales Team, led by the Executive Director, with sales and marketing programs and initiatives
Represents the community with a positive attitude and pride when interacting with potential residents and families

The Medication Aide in RI must complete a state approved training course in medication administration and receive a certificate of satisfactory successful completion. Must retain license as applicable by state regulation. Must also attend the Benchmark Medication Aide training program.
Must complete the Benchmark Medication Aide training.
Must demonstrate competency in accordance with the state-approved protocol in drug administrati! on/ assistance.
Successfully complete Medication Aide competency review (as supervised by RCD / RCN) every six months (quarterly in RI).
Must have current certification as a nursing assistant or have successfully completed the certified home health aide or homemaker/personal care homemaker training program.
High School education preferred
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Physically able to move at least 50 lbs. without assistance.
Physical stamina and ability to assist residents or lift residents where needed and in emergencies.
Physically able to bend, reach and work in small areas.
Physically able to push and pull, equipment and furnishings.
