Physician Assistant\Nurse Practitioner

Description : Under the general supervision of the Chief of Urology or his designee and the Director, Cancer Services and Ambulatory Care, performs a variety o! f duties to encompass, but are not limited to the care and management of pre- and post-operative urology patients, including assisting in the operating rooms. Works in a collaborative team environment that supports the academic mission to train urology residents. All essential functions performed in this position reflect the age specific needs of the patient.
Works closely with the urology residents as part of the urology team to coordinate patient care needs day-to-day for teaching patients; may also be assigned responsibility to coordinate patient care needs of non-teaching patients.
Assists in the preparation of discharge summaries for the attending physician's signature.
Assesses patient status, participates in the development of patient care management plans through communication and collaboration with the Registered Nurses, attending physicians, residents, and other members of the interdisciplinary team.
Performs credentialed procedures as delineated b! y the medical staff credentialing requirements
Evaluates a! nd cares for patients who present who in the Emergency Room with urology problems.
Provides first or second assistant coverage for the primary surgeon during surgical cases on both inpatients and outpatients.
Participates in Surgical Service Educational activities.
Annually completes required training in urology.
Qualifications : Physician Assistant Requirements
Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant Program
Certification by the National Commission for Certification of Physician Assistants
Successful completion of American Heart Association Basic Life Support/Advanced Cardiac Life Support course, and licensure from the Rhode Island Department of Health.
3-5 yrs experience with an "inpatient" clinical environment required
General urology or surgical practice experience in general surgical procedures preferred but not required
Healthcare environment such as acute care hospitals, physicians' offices and ancillary healthcare! enterprises.
Nurse Practitioner Requirements
Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program
Certification by the National Commission for Certification of Nurse Practioners
Successful completion of American Heart Association Basic Life Support/Advanced Cardiac Life Support course, and licensure from the Rhode Island Department of Health.
3-5yrs experience with an "inpatient" clinical environment required
