POSITION TITLE: VOLUNTEER COMPANION DEPARTMENT: Nursing 3PAV/2PAV COMMITMENT: minimum of 100 hours ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Greet patients and patients family members Distribute reading materials to patients and patients family members Sit with patients and play cards, read to or converse with as a companion Identify patients able to have water, empty and fill patients water pitcher Walking with ambulatory patients in room/hallway Communicate with patients family members (wait time) ESSENTIAL SKILLS: (Confidentiality and Customer Service are required of all volunteers.) Self-motivated Asks questions when unsure of task Able to function independently after training Good listening skills Good communicator Sympathetic to patients needs Respectful of patients privacy Committed to excellence in customer service
