Staffed with approximately 1400 employees, 1263 FTEE and 733 volunteers, the Providence VA Medical Center (PVAMC) is an active general medical, surgical and mental health facility with 73 authorized beds and is affiliated with the Alpert Medical School of Brown University. The Medical Center's Ambulatory Care program is one of the largest in Rhode Island with over 399,000 annual outpatient visits. This facility services over 34,000 veterans annually throughout the state of Rhode Island and southeastern Massachusetts including Cape Cod. It offers over 32 subspecialty clinics and operates community-based outpatient clinics in New Bedford MA, Hyannis MA, and Middletown ! RI as well as one annex at Eagle Square. Special medical care ! programs are available in Substance Abuse, Mental Health Intensive Case Management, Psychosocial Rehabilitation and Recovery Center, Veterans Resource and Recovery Center, Comprehensive Work Therapy Program, Mental Health, Hemodialysis, Community Care, Medical /Surgical Intensive Care, Cardiac Pacemaker Monitoring, Palliative Care, Geriatrics and Extended Care, and Home-Based Primary Care. In addition, the medical center has affiliations with the Harvard School of Dental Medicine, New England School of Optometry, University of Rhode Island School of Pharmacy, and Rhode Island College School of Nursing.
As part of the VA New England Healthcare System, the PVAMC is supports the vision of the network to "be the benchmark of excellence and value in health care and benefits by providing exemplary services that are both patient-centered and evidence-based." In support of the VISN mission, PVAMC is committed to delivering this quality of care by engaging collaborative tea! ms in an integrated environment, supporting learning, discovery, and continuous improvement. PVAMC embraced the VISN 1 implementation of the Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT) model. In 2012, PVAMC excelled and was the highest performer in the VISN for the PACT performance measures. This successful model has now been expanded to specialty services. The VISN Telehealth initiative allows PVAMC to provide veterans timely access and results to a myriad of clinical services; including Dermatology and Mental Health. Access to care is a core component of Secretary Shinseki's charge to all VA facilities. Through many System Redesign projects, PVAMC has implemented innovative and creative processes to achieve the desired increase in access. PVAMC integrates the Veterans Health Administration and VISN 1 values Integrity, Commitment, Advocacy, Respect, and Excellence in the provision of the "best care anywhere" for our Veterans. The facility utilizes the Malcolm Baldrige Award as a fram! ework for organizational assessment to achieve excellence. System redes! ign is supported with tools of lean to improve efficiency. PVAMC is the site of the Center of Excellence for Neurorestoration and Neurotechnology as well as the coordinating center for the VA Cooperative Study on the DEKA Arm, the home of a VA Research Enhancement Award Program (REAP), a Genomics Laboratory and the Geriatric Extended Care Data Analysis Center (GECDAC).
VA structures its SES positions into pay bands. This is a Pay Band 2 position. The salary range for this position is $119,554 -$173,600. Exceptions to the salary cap may be authorized.
Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs, a recruitment/relocation incentive, and/or Appraised Value Offer (AVO) (formerly Guaranteed Home Buyout Option) may be authorized.

The Health System Administrator (Medical Center Director) is responsible to the VISN 1 Network Director. The position requires the effective and economical direction, control, and operation of the Providence VA Medical Center (PVAMC). The responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Provides full delegated line authority and responsibility for executive level management of the Providence VA Medical Center. Overall responsibility for planning, organizing, coordinating, controlling, reviewing, evaluating, and improving medical, administrative, and support operations of the medical facility.
Makes final decisions which have a direct and substantial impact on the healthcare organization and programs. ! Such decisions affect the nature, scope, and quality of patient care pr! ograms and activities.
Establishes PVAMC policy and procedure consistent with the VISN 1, Veterans Health Administration (VHA) and VA corporate guidelines.
Determines program goals and objectives and develops short-range and long-range plans for achieving strategic direction consistent with VISN 1, VHA and VA Strategic, Performance and Operating goals.
Develops and maintains cooperative relationships with other Federal government agencies, local and state governments, community organizations and other health care providers in PVAMC's area.
Fosters positive relations with the news media, Congressional staff, service organizations, and volunteer groups.
