The Providence Center School is a unique, special needs school serving children in grades pre-K through 12 who are experiencing acute behavioral and emotional symptoms. Fully license! d by the Department of Education, The Providence Center School serves children and adolescents who have been referred for special needs education by school systems throughout Rhode Island. Our goal is to prepare students to be successful learners in traditional community school settings. Our team of certified special education teachers, teaching assistants, and master's-level clinical therapists work together in the same location to address each student's academic, social, therapeutic, and mental health needs.

The school also develops Individual Education Plans (IEP) for each student. Depending on the child's unique needs, IEP goals may include speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, and psychiatric evaluation and counseling, all of which are provided on-site. We have the following position open: School Nurse Teacher to provide nursing and health education services to TPC School. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.

Other! duties may be assigned. Package and administer medications as! per doctor orders for the school -Determine that doctor orders have been accurately transcribed -Implement appropriately prescribed medical regimen -Ensure medication is properly maintained in a secure location -Dispose of medications in accordance with agency policy -Conduct medication checks as assigned under the supervision of the child psychiatrist Triage and assess students and adolescents for illness and injury -Perform basic first aid procedures according to protocol -Consult with a physician/psychiatrist when medical opinion is needed -Understand legal responsibilities in respective programs -Inform parents of any injuries or health concerns noted at school -Perform in a calm and professional manner during crisis or emergency situations -Assess student̢۪s medical status during physical holds and sign reports Perform nursing in accordance with appropriate medical protocol -Treat students with respect -Schedule various screenings (i.e. hearing, vision) according to ! State regulations -Inform parents, staff, and TPC Infection Control Hotline of any communicable diseases found in the school population -Make and act on decisions independently to resolve potential health issues experienced by students -Work with parents/guardians regarding their child's individual health issues (e.g. screenings indicating need for medical follow-up, recommending and assisting with making appointments, etc.) Complete required training (initial and refreshers) in crisis management -Implement/perform appropriate crisis management techniques, including de-escalation procedures, therapeutic holds, time out, restraint (individually or with other staff), and seclusion according to policy and procedural guidelines and criteria for use Collaborate with appropriate TPC School staff when providing care to students and adolescents -Communicate student health care activities to staff, guardians and supervisors as appropriate -Enter notes into educational records regard! ing an on-site injury, health concern, or examination and complete an a! gency incident report as appropriate -Serve as a medical resource to school staff -Attend meetings of the TPC School team.

(Clinical team, treatment teams, half day monthly meetings, full staff, PBIS Leadership) -Attend monthly Environment of Care Committee Level meetings Perform record-keeping in accordance with Health Information Services (HIS) and other Center requirements -Obtain school health record and note areas to be addressed at intake -Ensure that all health and medication permissions, physician orders, and exam documents are current and implemented -Enter notes on health-related issues in student records -Assure student medical data (immunizations, physicals) is documented on student health record and is up to date -Initiate and process health related incident reports per Center guidelines -Follow required office procedures in a cooperative manner -Assure that all immunizations are current for students OCCASIONAL DUTIES: -Complete instructor training for! Handle with Care (crisis management) and train others as assigned. -Serve on appropriate Center committees -Facilitate or co-facilitate psycho-education groups and/or in-services
