Licensed Medication Technician

Location: Warwick Rhode Island

Description: Benchmark Senior Living is hiring Licensed Medication Technician right now, this occupation will be placed in Rhode Island. Medication Technicians administer approved medications with knowledge of their effects and side effects, and charting this administration. The Med-Tech may also serve as the Lead ! Advocacy
Recognizes and can assist in the prevention of elder abuse, neglect, and exploitation

Communication
Communicates questions, concerns, and/or discrepancies related to medication administration to RCD
Communicates any significant change of mental or physical status of resident to RCD
Documents supervision of self administration in MAR
Documents/ notifies RCD of administration of prn meds
Responsible for documentation on prn meds and affect

Compliance/Safety
Understands the ethical and legal responsibilities inherent in the administration of medications
Has knowledge and understanding o medication, abbreviations, common side effects, adverse reactions, expected action, look alike medications, drug interactions, importance of prompt repo! rting of unwanted effects, proper storage, and use of referenc! e
Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of apothecary and metric measurement and simple conversion.
Checks all med books and ensures that meds have been given, treatments completed, and all initials are complete as state regulations permit
Checks ADL books for signatures and completion of care
Reviews and completes all incident reports and illness reports
Acts as lead in an emergency (e.g., elopement, fire, disaster, etc.)

Organization / Prioritization
Follows daily work schedules as directed and identifies and acts on non-scheduled tasks
Shows a consistent ability to coordinate multiple tasks
Maintains a positive attitude when working under pressure

Problem Solving / Decision Making
Responds to emergencies and personal emergency response system and knows when to call for backup
Effectively handles difficult resident behaviors
Reacts calmly and effectively in emergency situations

Public Relations / Ma! rketing
Represents the community with a positive attitude and pride when interacting with potential residents and families
Develops and practices the “30-second commercial" and uses it to greet visitors

Resident Care
Able to properly and safely set up and administer non-injectable medications with the exception of all Schedule II Drugs
Able to properly chart medications administered and immediately report to the nurse those medications not administered for any reason
Answers emergency calls and attends to residents’ needs promptly
Responsible for maintaining adequate supply of meds (ordering and reordering)
Responsible for administering non-controlled substances
Responsible for documentation of med administration in MAR
Responsible for administering non injectable medication
May supervise resident who is self administering injectable medications

Vision / Innovation
Assesses risk in a proactive manner

Assists the Community Sales Team, lead by the Executive! Director, with sales and marketing programs and initiatives
Represents the community with a positive attitude and pride when interacting with potential residents and families

Job Requirements

Must have valid Rhode Island Medication Technician Certification and Certified Nursing Aid Certification
Successfully complete medication technician competency review (as supervised by RN / RCD) quarterly

EDUCATION
The Medication Technician must complete a state approved training course in drug administration and receive a certificate of satisfactory successful completion.
Med-Techs will be evaluated on their competency by the RCD each quarter
Must have current certification as a nursing assistant or have successfully completed the certified home health aide or homemaker/personal care homemaker training program.
High School education preferred

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Physically able to move at least 50 lbs. without assistan! ce.
Physical stamina and ability to assist residents or lift residents where needed and in emergencies.
Physically able to bend, reach and work in small areas.
Physically able to push and pull, equipment and furnishings.
